Arrests and Fatalities Linked to Drunk Driving
Strengthened enforcement of DUI laws in Oklahoma during the New Year’s holiday brought officers from the Alcoholic Beverage Laws Enforcement (ABLE) Commission to establishments that served alcohol, checking a total of 41 locations and monitoring the sale of alcoholic beverages to individuals throughout the state. ABLE officers also assisted with three arrests in Oklahoma for public intoxication. Although preliminary data from the Fatality Analysis Reporting System indicated that no traffic fatalities were reported in Oklahoma from late December 31 to early January 1 (New Year’s Eve), there were 11 fatalities reported between December 28 and January 2. This is a significant increase from the five fatalities reported during this same time period last year.
